TDARS ran GB2TVS for the young people of Tern Valley Scout District in Shropshire.
GB2TVS ran from 08:32 UTC on Saturday 19th October 2024 until 12:30 UTC on Sunday 20th October 2024 with sixty-three Squirrels (3), Beavers (11), Cubs (43) and Scouts (3) joining us over the weekend for the activities.
Graham – G7LMF and Mike – M1CKD operated an Icom IC-9600 on 20mtr and 40mtr SSB through a Comet H422 V Dipole antenna mounted on the club mast which worked for most of the weekend apart from Saturday afternoon when HF appeared to die so we had to switch to an Icom IC910 on 2mtr FM running through a home-brew SOTA dipole. This worked well to fill the gap.
Across the weekend we managed to work forty-nine stations across sixteen countries including Scout Stations worked in the UK including GB2GP, GB4TSG, GB0LS, GB4LGF, GB2RVA, GB8CS & GB0WHT and Scout Stations worked abroad including ON4JOTA, OL1JOTA, DP9S, PA6RCE/J, PA3FFK/JOTA, II4JOTA, LX9S, CR5EPB & OM8JOTA.

Paul – M0PNN set up his home-brew QO-100 voice station and operated throughout the whole of the weekend with no breaks with contacts with scouts at the UK Scouts HQ at Gilwell Park operating GB2GP as well as LX9S at the World Scout Bureau in Luxembourg.

Non-scouting contacts of interest via QO-100 where with VU2DPN in India and YB5QZ in Indonesia.
As well as the popularity of the radio communications, the Morse Code table run throughout the weekend by Paul – M0PLA, Tony – M0TZM & Barry – 2E0RNN proved to be another great hit with the young people as did the Satellite Communications Demonstration given by Simon – G0UFE

Some of the other non-radio activities put on by the local scout leaders for the young people to try out during their visit included Semaphore, Braille and Makaton which also went done very well.
Thanks also go to Martin – M0YFO & Eric – M0KZB for their support during the weekend.
