Youngsters can beat post-Christmas blues with a technology and communications activity day in Wellington

When you are young, holidays seem to last forever, but parent’s patience is soon worn thin. There is an event after Christmas where parents can take their tech-mad children for a day of technology and communication activities – the event is ‘Youngsters on the Air’ (known as YOTA) which is a global event and the penultimate day is being run at 2nd Wellington Scout hut on Sunday December 30th from 10am to 4pm.

The Wellington YOTA event includes a live radio station where they can speak to other youngsters around the world taking part in YOTA. They will be transmitting on a special event radio station GB18YOTA organised by members of Telford and District Amateur Radio Society. But that’s not all of it…

logos Yota 2018 The day is all about technology and activities it includes using light beams to communicate with others, operating a digital TV station, using hand-held radio to send signals up to satellites to speak all over the world and also many other hands-on activities to keep them inspired and busy in the post-Christmas holiday blues period.

Attendance is free but parents should phone Graham Cowan on 07885 936252 before the event. It takes place in 2nd Wellington Scout hut, Lychgate Walk, by All Saints parish Church Wellington but parking is very limited so visitors are advised to park in the lay-by or railway station car park. Use Sat Nav postcode TF1 3HA for location.
